Swimmer raising funds for JMAW!

Howard Warrington gears up to swim his 212th Robben Island Crossing for local animal welfare.

Let’s put our paws and claws together as endurance athlete and Guinness world record holder Howard Warrington prepares to take the plunge on his 212th swim from Robben Island to Blouberg.

Howard, an avid animal lover, will swim the 7.4km Robben Island crossing, with its average water temperatures at a mere 13 degrees, wearing only his speedo.
Howard will be enduring the cold and discomfort to help raise funds for John Moore Animal Welfare, a registered community veterinary clinic and NPO (NPO 000 234) based in the small town of Robertson in the Western Cape.
His darling wife, Elmarie, will skipper their boat, and their beloved Border Collie, Lily Warrington, will be aboard on her post to keep her watchful eyes for possible “unfriendly” encounters.
Lily wants to help be a voice for the innocent, says Howard. She has a wonderful, privileged life but she wants to help her furry friends for whom, life is not that easy. “Help Us Help Them” barks Lily. “Your Donation makes tails wag” she says.

Howard will be braving the icy water, unpredictable current, jellyfish stings, currents and waves in order to raise funds for a vehicle for John Moore Animal Welfare.

John Moore Animal Welfare is in desperate need of a bakkie of their own to reach more animals in need. It is too far for owners to walk to the nearest vet with their pets and being able to transport animals with their own vehicle will allow John Moore Animal Welfare to help more animals get much-needed veterinary care.
“There is so much work to be done in our surrounding community and not having a full-time, suitable vehicle is preventing us from reaching more animals desperately in need of care. Every cent raised will bring us one step closer to our goal of the R50 000 still needed to purchase a bakkie” said spokesperson, Michelle Uren.
